We start our day early in the morning driving south through the Corinth Canal, where we will make a short stop and then we will drive to Nemea. According to research, wine was initially produced in Nemea 3500 years ago. This is why Nemea is considered to be one of the biggest winemaking regions in Greece.
Some of the finest wines in the world are produced in this area. The most famous grape variety in Nemea is called Ayoryitiko. Ayoryitiko was the most widely planted red grape variety in Greece. Apart from this, the town of Nemea is also “Agios Georgios or St.George”. In 1973 a group of wine growers decided to establish an association.
In the present time, all the wine growers in Nemea region are members of this association. Furthermore, the wine Cooperative Association has been successfully equipped with the latest technology and at the same time has adopted advanced marketing methods to secure high position for wines future both in Greece and the rest of the world.
